Chief Accountant (Accounting Expert with German)

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our client’s Regional Shared Service Center in Katowice as a Chief Accountant. This role is ideal for a Senior Accountant with over 7 years of experience and relevant qualifications such as ACCA. You will oversee the quality of accounting within the General Ledger, support and review team members, and resolve complex accounting issues, including preparing data for SAP during mergers and acquisitions. The position is based on well-established processes and fosters collaboration across international teams. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee and validate month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Support and review journal entries prepared by other accountants.
• Prepare and review financial statements ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
• Analyze unusual or complex accounting situations and propose appropriate treatments.
• Prepare financial data for SAP postings related to mergers and acquisitions.
• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across Regional Finance, Corporate Accounting, Controlling, Tax, and Treasury.
• Review internal Controls and accounts reconciliation and support internal and external audit activities.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and standardization across GL, AP and AR teams.
• Manage accounting transactions in SAP, including fixed assets and intercompany reconciliations.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 7 years of professional accounting experience, ideally in an international or multi-regional environment.
• Strong accounting knowledge, including German GAAP and/or IFRS.
• Proven experience in financial statement preparation and month-/year-end closing leadership.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex accounting issues.
• Proficiency in SAP (FI/CO) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent communication skills in German and English.
• Relevant academic or educational background.
• Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or CPA is highly desirable.
