We are looking for an FDM Printing Specialist with deep hands‑on experience in Fused Deposition Modeling to strengthen our Prototyping & Biomechanics Team. If you thrive on rapid prototyping, precision manufacturing, and continuous machine optimization, you will have an immediate impact on our iterative product‑development and research pipelines.
You will own in‑house prototyping, tooling development, and material qualification across an expanding fleet of FDM printers.
Responsibilities
Production & Experimental Printing
- Operate and monitor a multi‑printer FDM farm for daily production runs.
- Prepare slicing profiles and generate G‑code for high‑reliability, dimensionally accurate prints.
- Run experimental builds for prototype validation and design verification.
- Document results and feed insights back into print profiles and design rules.
Printer Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to maximize uptime.
- Diagnose and resolve issues such as clogs, first‑layer adhesion, bed leveling, extrusion inconsistencies, and Z‑wobble.
- Maintain a detailed log of repairs, calibrations, and firmware upgrades.
- Research, test, and document print behaviour of engineering polymers (PPS, PEEK, PC, PA/nylon).
Material Research & Testing
- Evaluate new FDM materials for printability, dimensional accuracy, mechanical strength, and durability.
- Collaborate with R&D on custom filament formulations and advanced composites.
- Publish clear test reports and recommendations.
Logistics & Supply Coordination
- Liaise with procurement to ensure uninterrupted supply of consumables, filaments, and spare parts.
- Manage inventory of nozzles, belts, hot ends, build plates, and tools.
- Source alternative vendors and materials as needed.
Workspace Setup & Safety
- Organise and maintain the 3D‑printing lab to meet safety, ventilation, and ESD standards.
- Optimise workstations for technician ergonomics, efficiency, and 5S cleanliness.
- Enforce temperature/humidity control protocols.
Requirements
-
2+ years operating and maintaining FDM printers in a professional environment or a portfolio demonstrating equivalent expertise.
- Proven experience with printers such as Prusa, Creality, Ultimaker, Raise3D, etc.
- Strong understanding of PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, and engineering‑grade polymers and composites.
- Solid grasp of calibration, tolerancing, and process capability.
- Ability to work autonomously and communicate clearly within cross‑functional technical teams.
- Fluency in technical English.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of CAD tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) and reading mechanical drawings.
- Experience with OctoPrint, Klipper, or custom firmware development.
- Background in mechanical design or biomechanics prototyping.
