Project


The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating interactions with clients/other external stakeholders related to the power futures market, with a specific focus on the Nordic electricity markets and clearing house market risk framework.

The role requires a solid understanding of the structure and functioning of the Nord Pool market, including the day-ahead and intraday markets, as well as related financial instruments such as futures, EPADs (Electricity Price Area Differentials) and clearing mechanisms.

Interaction with external stakeholders is key, as the ability to interpret and implement regulatory requirements and industry best practices, supporting initiatives as product development and risk mitigation strategies tailored to the specific dynamics of the Nordic region.

Nordic power markets boasts a history of close interaction between financial institutions and customers: in this context the role requires a strong ability to address customer requests and doubts combined with strong proactivity

 

Some specificity of the knowledge required to perform the services are:

  • Market structure and main operations: functioning of Nord Pool spot markets, structure and role of the cleared financial power markets that will be operated by Client's Clearing
  • Zonal configuration and dynamics: knowledge of the market bidding zones and their respective characteristics. Analysis of price area differences and cross-zonal interactions
  • Key market participants: familiarity with the main actors in the market (utilities, trading houses, TSOs, financial players and competitors clearing houses). Awareness of market roles and behaviours such as market makers, speculators, physical vs financial participants.
  • Instruments interdependencies: relation between physical and financial markets (e.g. hedging strategies) and links with adjacent power markets (e.g. German power market)
  • Market mechanism and regulation: clearing and margining mechanism relevant to Nordic power contracts, strong knowledge of main margin methodology applied (VaR models, SPAN models), stress testing principles. Insights into current market issues and regulatory concerns, including area price volatility, liquidity in EPAD markets, concentration risk

 

The role will involve frequent interaction with clients, regulatory bodies and market infrastructure providers. The ideal candidate should be able to translate this domain expertise into high-quality project outcomes, combining strategic and technical insights with clear communication and strong executional skills.

 

Deliverables

  • Client presentations and reports summarizing project progress, methodological framework, analytical insights, solution proposal
  • Risk assessment documents including impact simulations, benchmark analysis, main risk exposures and mitigation proposals related to counterparty/market risk
  • Stakeholder alignment summaries documenting open points, requests, key decisions and follow-ups from internal and external meetings (with clients/TSO/regulators)
  • Regulatory impact assessment evaluating the effects of new internal/external requests, market rules or national regulator consultation on internal processes and client impacts
  • Training and onboarding materials to support internal knowledge transfer on Nordic power market structure, trading instruments, risk methodologies and internal interactions
