Model Risk Management (MRM), part of Global Risk & Compliance, is responsible for providing second line of defence for HSBC’s model risk. Model Risk Management comprises of five key areas, led by the Chief Model Risk Officer:
- Independent Model Review - Independently reviewing and (re)validating models and methodologies across functions and risk types within the bank.
- Model Risk Governance - Setting the firm’s model risk policies and standards as well as ensuring that model risk is managed within the approved tolerance levels.
- Model Risk Stewardship - Facilitating responsible development, understanding and use of models and analytics, as well as providing subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and effective challenge across regions, businesses, and functions.
- Regulatory Standards and Quality Assurance - Providing expertise and partnering to Senior Management for reviewing and decision making, by developing opinions and interpretations of relevant regulatory changes impacting model risk.
- Infrastructure – Providing Global Model Inventory System (GMIS) management, maintenance, and user engagement, along with report production and technology enhancements.
Infrastructure caters to both strategic and operational aspects of managing model risk and enforces Model Risk Policies through technology. They are responsible for reporting production across Model Risk Management including dashboard developments, data retrieval and quality updates, model inventory reporting and attestation tracking, data visualisation and analytics, Model Risk Management data and systems management, and systems and technology enhancements.
What you’ll do
- Assist with timely and accurate reports and solutions to support the management of model risk.
- Support the production of high-quality Business Requirement Documents for all aspects of model risk system.
- Input into model risk reporting dashboards and relevant management information for internal and external communication support including reporting for board, committee and senior management, and engagement with Internal Audit and other key stakeholders.
- Support analytical and highly quantitative change projects to enable 1LOD to manage model risk efficiently and effectively.
- Suggest enhancements to processes and reporting to drive efficiency across the model life cycle.
- Support the planning, testing/assessing, documenting, and reporting to senior management on appropriateness of: Model validation standards, guidelines, playbooks, and technical manuals; Individual model validation reports; reviewing both technical and presentational aspects; Independent Model Validation peer review processes and outputs.
- Support the delivery of training.
- Deliver, high quality, timely reports on findings from assurance reviews.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- Some knowledge in model development/validation tools and methods across an array of different model types.
- Prior knowledge of providing technical assurance or auditing of model validation activities, would be preferrable.
- Experience of technical report writing, ideally a model developer or independent validator.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Team-oriented mentality combined with ability to complete tasks independently to a high-quality standard.
- Master’s or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline like Financial Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Economics or Engineering.
